We had a very good win at the weekend against a Millwall side who have started the season off with three great wins, including one in the League cup.
I saw them [Millwall] when they beat Hull 4-0 and they were strong, powerful and well-organised - we went a goal behind too, and managed to come back from it. It really was an excellent display.
Over the 90 minutes we hit the woodwork two or three times, they made a couple of saves and we got three goals. I'd say we had 25 shots, 16 on target. It was a real positive performance.
From my point of view in my current role, every team scouts the opposition and you have to see enough games so there are no surprises. This usually means watching the opposition's last four games, and maybe even viewing a couple more on DVD.
I'll then go and check out their last match before we play them, we then pull the reports together and analyse them, and aim to cover as many eventualities as we can.
This breaksdown to cover all eventualties from looking at the team we think they'll play, the people in key positions, who may be a sub and what the set-plays are.
The thing with Millwall is you must match their work rate and aggression. Then hopefully you'll convert your possession into chances and we did that very well on the weekend.
The positives for us weren't just from that result. They were from all the matches this season, even the loss against Derby. What we can take out of all these matches is that we can compete at this level.
If we're at our best, there is no reason why we can't win games in the Championship, but it has also taught the players that you can't afford to start half-paced. We have to be at it 100% of the time but each good result brings belief, especially when you're in a new league.
Football evolves and changes each season and at the top level or Championship level it can be different from League One. Getting that win, the number of chances we created and the fact their two front players didn't have a shot, is great. We did a real defensive job on them, but also had 25 shots ourselves. It was almost a complete performance.
We're away at Watford on Saturday and it won't be easy. They've had a decent start, two draws and a win, again they are another well organised side.
We just need to start like we did against Millwall.
On a side note we've got some other postives to look forward to as well - Calum Davenport is training with us. He is physically fit but hasn't had any football. He'll spend a bit of time with us, we'll see how he gets on and how he progresses and then when he is up-to-speed with football fitness, we'll see if he stays with us or moves elsewhere.
