Manchester City's win over Liverpool this week was a statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League. They are like Arsenal were a few years ago, not the football they play but the physical specimens. They have such big men in their back seven. It is like when the Gunners had Seaman, Bould, Adams and Vieira to name a few, they also had seven big players.
Man City are good footballers, they are strong, pass well and are a threat in every area. Obviously they had home advantage for that 3-0 win, but they also had James Milner... He played very well and it made a difference compared to the 0-0 they finished with against Spurs at White Hart Lane on the opening day
What's really worrying with City is you're not going to see the best of them still for a few months until everyone is bedded in. Mancini's said as much and he's right to. They've got impressive depth too, just look at their bench and there's about £90m of talent. That's without the injured Boateng.
Yes they have spent lots of money, but sometimes it takes that to get you to a level playing field with Arsenal, Chelsea and Man U. They needed to splash that cash just to have a chance of getting a top four spot and then to be in with a shout of winning the Premier League. All clubs have spent lots of money though. Even sides like Aston Villa, Spurs and Liverpool. The difference is they have spread out that spending over a few years. City have done it in on go. But now you have half a dozen sides who can win it - and six teams who could beat virtually any international side in the world too.
Chelsea would be world champions if they were an international team. Just look at the start they have had. It has certainly been an interesting opening two weeks to the season in the top flight.
I am so pleased for Chris Hughton. That 6-0 win against Aston Villa showed Newcastle are back. He has taken a difficult job, done it really well and now he's got a result that will buy him time. Villa were particularly poor but that should take nothing away from Newcastle's performance.
We definitely have the best top football league in the world right now. We have the talent, the excitement and some great football being played. Every fan should be looking forward to week three starting tomorrow!
