Should Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish disappear from the stands for a while?

05.11.09

For most there are only two names in the running if (and that’s still a very big IF) poor Rafa Benitez should be given the sack at struggling Liverpool. Those names are Jose Mourinho and King Kenny Dalglish.

As Liverpool put a major spanner in the works of their Champions League campaign last night by conceding at the death to draw 1-1 at Lyon, the pressure on Benitez rose to its highest level yet.

And one of those men was sat in the crowd looking stony faced. And we don't mean the one from Portugal.

Kenny Dalglish HillsboroughKenny Dalglish, currently a club ambassador, was watching from the stands in France, and his presence must only add to the pressure on Benitez.

You can't blame him for being there to watch his beloved side, he's on the payroll at Anfield, but surely his presence doesn't help anyone right now.

Liverpool currently sit third in Group E on four points, and are away to Debrecen on November 24, while Fiorentina host Lyon.

They will be OUT if Fiorentina beat the French side in three weeks time, before Fiorentina have even come to Anfield for the last game on December 9. What a depressing tie that will be, should Liverpool be already out.

Now we don’t for a minute doubt Rafa’s fantastic talent as a manager, but his life isn’t being made any easier by having one of the men who could potentially replace him sat in the stands at every game. When things go bad, he's a constant reminder to the fans that they have a Liverpool legend waiting in the wings upstairs.

“How I keep my own head up now is very simple - by watching the performance of the players and hearing the fans singing at the end,” said Benitez after the game.

Wise words, but a job that would surely be made easier if Kenny were to sit at home and watch his beloved Liverpool on the TV for a while.

We know Kenny Dalglish would only ever want the best for his side, and maybe right now, that’s doing a vanishing act to ease the pressure on the stressed Spaniard in the dugout.

Are you a Liverpool fan? What do you think? Should Kenny vanish until Rafa turns his form around? Let us know with your comments...

No, he always goes to games, even before his new role. What he should do is tell Rafa where he's going wrong...
